A Guide to Children's Week

On the Rocketway!
Children's week is here and it is one of my favorite holidays. Why you may wonder? Essentially ~free~ companion pets. All you have to do is run the little orphan around Azeroth completing their quests and you can potentially (if you've done this many years in a row you probably have them all) get 3 new companion pets!!

Head to Orgrimmar and grab the quest/orphan from Orphan Matron Battlewail in The Drag. The orphan will have you do a series of quests (6 quests to be exact) that take them to do things that they have always wanted to do. Those are pretty self explanatory and the in-game quest helper marks the spots for you on the map. In the end, you return to the Orgrimmar Orphan Matron and you get to choose a new pet: a little pig, a turtle, a rat or a snail. All are squee worthy, but I chose the turtle, Speedy, because Midaria has a thing for them. The orc orphan wants to see the Red Rocks in Mulgore, Lady Sylvanas in Undercity, and ride the rocketway in Azshara. He also wants to eat ice cream and fly a kite in Orgrimmar.

Wolvar pet
Moving on, I went to Dalaran, you don't have to do it in this order--this is just how I did it. Orphan Matron Aria is outside of the Eventide bank. You can choose to hang out with the cute little oracle or the silly little wolvar. This year I choose the wolvar. He too, has a bucket list of 6 for you to do with him. At the end of the quest line a pet is mailed to you, depending on which orphan you chose to help. The little wolvar wants to see pretty much all of Northrend: Grizzlemaw in Grizzly Hills, Snowfall Glade, Bronze Dragonshire and eventually the dragon queen in Dragonblight. He also wants to see Hemet Nesingwary in Sholazar Basin and play with a paper zeppelin, purchasable at the Wonderworks in Dalaran.

Finally I went on to the Shattrath quests, which start at Orphan Matron Mercy in Lower City The little blood elf orphan wants to see the Dark Portal in Hellfire, the "mushroom" men in Zangarmarsh and the Throne of Elements in Nagrand. She also wants to go to the Cavern of Times and then see the Tauren Chieftains at the Walk of Elders in Silvermoon City. After you bring the blood elf orphan back to Shattrath, you are able to chose between one of the adorable BC pets: Egbert, an Elekk, Sleepy Willy or Legs. I chose Legs last year when I did this on Aurorie, and I have to say he is one of my favorite pets in-game atm. On Midaria though, I chose Egbert because he is so adorable in his little shell.

  • Home Alone
    • Use your hearth with the orphan out
  • Bad Example
    • Eat the following treats in front of the orphan. It is a good idea to do this while you are in Dalaran getting your Wrath orphan.
      • Tigule & Foror's Strawberry Icecream--As horde, you can purchase this on the zepplin's from a Snack-o-matic. Ally can get it from Lisa McKeever outside of the Mage district by the cooking trainer.
      • Tasty Cupcake--Crafted by a Cook level 350 or higher
      • Red Velvet Cupcake--purchased from Aimee in Dalaran
      • Delicious Chocolate Cake--Crafted by a Cook level 1 or higher
      • Lovely Cake Slice--purchased from Aimee Dalaran
      • Dalaran Brownie--purchased from Aimee Dalaran
      • Dalaran Doughnut--purchased from Aimee Dalaran
  • Daily Chores
    • Complete 5 daily achievements with your orphan out
      • The orphan only needs to be out when you are turning it in
        • I did the Org fishing daily, and then four of my Firelands dailies.
  • Aw, isn't it cute
    • Obtain one of the children's week pets
  • School of Hard Knocks
    • Capture the flag in Eye of the Storm
    • Assault a tower in Alterac Valley
    • Assault a flag in Arathi Basin
    • Return a flag in Warsong Gulch
      • I actually got really lucky with all of these, I ended up only having to do each battleground once. Surprisingly enough everyone was being really helpful!!
  • Hail to the King, baby
    • Kill King Ymiron in Utgarde Pinnacle with your orphan out
      • This is soloable, depending on your class--but pretty annoying! I would just grab a friend who needs it too ;)

Egbert :)
With "Bad Example" I'd group up with a few people and trade the sweets. A few of them come in a stack of 5, and instead of wasting it, why not share? I got lucky enough to be standing by someone who needed the Lovely cake--so I shared it with him, and in turn he made me a delicious chocolate cake and a tasty cupcake. Probably one of my luckiest holiday's in terms of other players being really amazing.

Make damn sure your orphan is out whenever you are trying to complete ANY and ALL of the achievements. I've seen them randomly disappear when mounting and just lagging out. It is always better to check instead of having to do something over. You can also do any of the achievements with which ever orphan you'd like.

I hope this guide was helpful for those of you who haven't done Children's Week. Have fun with your new companion pets! Next week, I'll finally be posting on the Darkmoon Faire--look for it Sunday evening!

Transmog Feature: Keledar

Now that I've finally gotten around to featuring Keledar's transmog set; it is sadly time for his subscription to end. This is one of the few plate sets that has the kilt looking legguards. I really like that in a plate set. I've only played on Moonguard and Spirestone, but I haven't ever seen this set on anyone but Keledar (not to say it isnt out there, just saying that it isn't one of the most popular ones that *every* paladin has.)

This helm is purchased from Dubin Clay in Dalaran with a Helm of the Wayward Conquerer token.  The token is dropped in Ulduar off of VX-001. It has a 25% drop rate, so if you can get a group together to do a transmog/achievment run, you have a pretty good chance of getting it. A paladin shares the token with priests and warlocks. Not really a fan of this helm...but then again I hardly ever have the helms showing on my characters because it messes with the hair.

These are purchased in Shattrath City from either Arodis Sunblade (Scryer) or Asuur (Aldor). The token drops off of High King Maulgar in Gruul's Lair. It has a 68% drop rate, and paladins share the token with shamen and rogues.

This lovely red cloak can be purchased from G'eras in Shattrath City for 182 Justice points.

Another Justicar piece--for this one you need the Chestguard of the Fallen Champion which drops off of Magtheridon in Magtheridon's Lair (They weren't very creative with dungeon names in BC...). Again, this token is shared between paladins, shamen and rogues. It has a 68% drop rate. Purchasable from the above Scryer/Aldor vendors.

The token for these gloves drop off of The Curator in Karazhan with a 37% drop rate. Again shared between paladin, rogue and shamen--purchasable from the same Scryer/Aldor venders.

This belt has a 20% drop rate off of Netherspite in Karazhan.

These legguards drop from Emalon the Storm Watcher in Vault of Archavon (need to control Wintergrasp). They have a 1.4% drop rate and only drop in Normal 10-man.  I absolutely love the colors on these!!

These greaves may prove to be a pain in the butt to farm--so check your local Auction house daily! If you want to try and farm them, they have the highest drop rate off of the Cabal Interrogator that hangs out in the upper right hand of the Bone Wastes in Terokkar Forest. Sadly, the highest drop rate for these is .17%.

One-handed sword-Mercenary Blade
This set has a lot of potential for weaponry. If you aren't interested in the weapon here, I would use a transmog website that has a search by color option. The Mercenary Blade that Keledar is using though has a very low chance to drop off trash in dungeons ranging from level 34-37 (Mauradon/Scarlet Monestary.) The "best" chance to drop off of Cavern Lurkers in Mauradon with a .17% drop rate. I would definitely watch the AH for this sword--or find a different one!

This shield "drops" in the dust covered chest that shows up after you beat the Echo of Medivh in a game of  chess. It has an 18% drop rate. I really like how small this shield is, and cute!

A big portion of this set is the Justicar Armor. The Justicar set, imo, is very boring when you have the whole set, but when it is tweaked as it is in Keledar's set, I think it looks quite dapper! Thank you to all those who read these blogs. I <3 you all. Next post will more than likely be on the Darkmoon Faire. Don't forget to check out my guide on Noblegarden! You still have two days to get the title!!

The Noble

I know that I promised Keledar's transmog feature for this week and a post on the Darkmoon Faire...but Noblegarden just snuck up on me--so I went ahead and put together this guide since it only runs from Sunday the 8th to next Saturday the 14th. <3

In my opinion, Noblegarden is one of the easier holiday events to complete. I did it within a few hours! Since I'm horde, the first thing I did was head to Razor Hill. The event is only held in the starting zones of each race. For the horde: Bloodhoof Village, Brill, Falconwing Square and Razor Hill. For you alliance players you can go to Wowhead's Noblegarden guide and get all your information there! I picked up the quests and equipped my handy dandy basket. The speed boost you get from it is really nice. I farmed the Brightly Colored Eggs that were hidden in the town for half an hour and ended up with 60 eggs. There were only about 7-10 people around and it actually goes better when more people are hunting because the eggs spawn faster. From what I can tell, they spawn in the same spots each time. So it is pretty easy to get in a good circuit and still avoid the other twenty people who are hunting--I really enjoy this actually :) There are two ways to do the egg hunting. You can either pick a good spot that you can easily click 2-3 eggs from, or run around in a circuit. Two years ago, I farmed just one spot with about 3 egg spawns. This year I ran the circuit and it was quicker and more fun.

The eggs you pick up don't stack, so if you are like me and want to farm a lot at once then take a break to open them all just make sure you have lots of empty bag space. Majority of the time you will get a chocolate in the egg. Other times you can get fragments for the quest (20, if you have the quest), Spring Robes, Spring Circlet, Elegant Dress, White Tuxedo Shirt, Black Tuxedo Pants, Blossoming Branches, Spring Rabbits Foot and the Swift Springstrider (New mount this year!!) The chances of actually getting the mount are rare, but my friend got one tonight--so who knows! It costs 500 noblegarden chocolates, if you don't get as lucky as her. You can also buy all of the above with the chocolates, which are the currency for this holiday. Items are purchasable via any Noblegarden Merchant located at each of the starting zones. At first I was just going to farm the chocolates as needed to obtain the title...but then I realized how easy it is to accumulate lots of them, so I am totally going for the mount. Midaria kind of has an obsession with the strider mounts anyway since the Lovebird

The Noble
  • I Found One
    • Find a Brightly Colored Egg
  • Sunday's Finest
    • Find the White Tuxedo Shirt and Black Tuxedo pants by opening a Brightly Colored Egg
  • Blushing Bride
    • Kiss someone wearing an Elegant Dress while wearing the White Tuxedo Shirt and Black Tuxedo pants
      • *cute story* today I had my Elegant Dress on and some guy whispered me asking permission to do this with me. Adorable. Sadly I was already flying away :(
  • Dressed for the Occasion
    • Find an Elegant Dress by opening a Brightly Colored Egg
  • Chocoholic
    • Eat 100 Noblegarden Chocolates
  • Noble Garden
    • Hide a Brightly Colored Egg in Silvermoon City (for the horde)
      • These can be purchased with 5 chocolates at a Noblegarden Merchant
  • Spring Fling
  • ahmagawd. baby bunnies <3
    • Find your Spring Rabbit someone to love in the towns listed below. You just need to walk passed the other players rabbit a few times. They know what to do.
      • Bloodhoof Village
      • Falconwing Square
      • Brill
      • Razor Hill

Wear the Spring Robes and you can plant a flower
  • Desert Rose
    • Use the Spring Robes to plant a flower in:
      • The Badlands
      • Silithus
      • Thousand Needles
      • Desolace
      • Tanaris

  • Hard Boiled
    • Lay an egg in Un'Goro Crater's Golakka Hot Springs
      • Bring/summon a friend who as a Blossoming Branch to turn you into a rabbit
      • There is another way, but it involves setting your hearth to Dalaran, hoping to get turned into a bunny while picking up eggs and walking--yes walking--as a rabbit from caverns of time all the way to Un'Goro. Just find someone who will do it. Everyone needs it for the achievement, just ask in general when you are farming for eggs :)
  • Shake Your Bunny-Maker
    • Use Spring Flowers (purchasable from a Noblegarden Merchant with 50 chocolates) to place rabbit ears on female players of at least the 18th level
      • Use on ALL 12 of the female races

All in all these achievements are pretty fun. I made sure to do the Hard Boiled one while I was working on Desert Rose, since Desolace, Thousand Needles, Tanaris and Silithus are all in the same area. Just a note, the Spring Flowers do not have a "use/charge" effect. Instead it has a 5 minute cooldown. Even though that tends to be annoying you can use it while mounted/flying. I found this quite useful on a PvP server while flying over Stormwind looking for dwarf females. You would not believe how many male night elves there are!! Good luck everyone! I hope you enjoy this holiday as much as I do.

Swift Springstrider
On an unrelated note, I got a new job so I may not be writing weekly, though I am going to try--it will probably end up being more like every two weeks. I will still be working on the Transmog Features and a Darkmoon Faire post.
